“Is this really important?” – Wisdom from the Psalms
by Donny on Jul.21, 2010, under Uncategorized, devotionals, devotions, prayers

Psalm 90:12 (NLT)
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Shelley had a dream. In it she was told she had only one week to live. The dream haunted her throughout the day. Every time she did something, she asked herself, “Is this really important?” She found that there were so many things she did that wasted precious time. People became more important to her than things. She wanted to go for a walk, rather than sit in front of the television set. Time became more valuable, and it caused her to realign her priorities. Shelley found her life completely changed. God wants us to value the time we have on earth. We take time for granted, acting as though our earthly life will go on forever. Time on earth is too short to waste. Number your days, and God will fill you with a special wisdom.
Prayer: Don’t let me waste time, but let me use every moment to the fullest. Help me to appreciate my life, and teach me new ways to use my time. Thank You for all my blessings. Amen.

Psalm 25:15 (NCV)
My eyes are always looking to the Lord for help. He will keep me from any traps.
John 1:12 (NCV)
But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God.
John 7:38 (NCV)
If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from that person’s heart, as the Scripture says.”
Acts 15:9 (NCV)
To God, those people are not different from us. When they believed, he made their hearts pure.
Romans 4:1-5 (NCV)
So what can we say that Abraham, the father of our people, learned about faith?2 If Abraham was made right by the things he did, he had a reason to brag. But this is not God’s view,3 because the Scripture says, “Abraham believed God, and God accepted Abraham’s faith, and that faith made him right with God.”4 When people work, their pay is not given as a gift, but as something earned.5 But people cannot do any work that will make them right with God. So they must trust in him, who makes even evil people right in his sight. Then God accepts their faith, and that makes them right with him.
Romans 4:18 (NCV)
There was no hope that Abraham would have children. But Abraham believed God and continued hoping, and so he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “Your descendants also will be too many to count.”
Romans 10:4 (NCV)
Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him may be right with God.
Romans 11:20 (NCV)
Those branches were broken off because they did not believe, and you continue to be part of the tree only because you believe. Do not be proud, but be afraid.
1 Corinthians 2:5 (NCV)
This was so that your faith would be in God’s power and not in human wisdom.
1 Peter 2:6 (NCV)
The Scripture says: “I will put a stone in the ground in Jerusalem. Everything will be built on this important and precious rock. Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.” (Isaiah 28:16)
2 Corinthians 1:24 (NCV)
We are not trying to control your faith. You are strong in faith. But we are workers with you for your own joy.

“What a Friend We Have in Jesus!”
by Donny on Feb.14, 2010, under Uncategorized, devotionals, devotions, music, prayers
1. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. 2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer. 3. Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he'll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there. AMEN! --- Joseph M. Scriven 1820-1886 ---
“For Just a Little While” by Bayless Conley (Christianity.com)
by Donny on Feb.11, 2010, under Uncategorized, devotionals, devotions, prayers
Today’s Scripture will start with the very last word of 1 Peter 1:4, just so you know who it is talking about, and go through verse 7,
…you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Notice in verse 6 it says, Though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials. That phrase “a little while” literally means a season. The King James Version says, Though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations.
I like the phrase “a little while”. That tells me the season is going to end. It is not forever. Every season ends. Winter ends. Spring ends. Summer ends. Fall ends. Every season has a beginning, and every season has an end.
If you are in a trial right now and feeling the weight of it, you are grieved because of it, I have good news. It will not be forever. Things are going to change. It may not seem like it, but that season will come to an end.
Even if you are not experiencing a trial today, I am confident you have gone through such a season, and it is likely that you will probably experience such a season again.
When you do, or if you are today, be encouraged. God’s Word wants you—and me—to remember it is for just a little while.
