“God uses situations and difficulties to get our attention” – Dr. Charles Stanley (In Touch Ministries)

James 4:6-10 (NCV)
6 But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” (Proverbs 3:34)
7 So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you.89 Be sad, cry, and weep! Change your laughter into crying and your joy into sadness. 10 Humble yourself in the Lord’s presence, and he will honor you. Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” That is an amazing promise! As we open ourselves up to the Lord, He opens up to us. If we come to Him in submission, repentance, and brokenness, He rushes in with forgiveness, love, and faithfulness. There is no room for self-sufficiency or self-protection in this interaction. Only in the humility of helplessness will we discover the sufficiency of His presence.
At first glance, we may seem to be the ones who begin this open relationship, but in reality, it is God who has taken the initiative; we are merely responding to His overture (John 6:44). Many times He uses situations and difficulties to get our attention and stimulate our thirst for Him. What appears to us to be a painful or desperate situation is His invitation to draw near.
Even our greatest failures and sins can lead us to Christ, as we seek forgiveness from the Father. With an attitude of humble repentance, we can enter into a more intimate relationship with God. However, if you and I continue living in rebellion and are unwilling to confess and repent, He will not open up and reveal more of Himself to us. Sin always blocks our ability to know the Lord.
Have you let adversity or failure pull you away from God instead of toward Him? To put distance between you and Jesus, Satan will misuse the very situations that the Lord can utilize to draw you to Himself. Don’t let the Enemy win the battle. “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

What Is Faith?
Hebrews 11:1-2 (NCV)
1 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. 2 Faith is the reason we remember great people who lived in the past.
Romans 10:17 (NCV)
17 So faith comes from hearing the Good News, and people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ.
Galatians 5:6 (NCV)
6 The important thing is faith—the kind of faith that works through love.
1 John 5:4 (NCV)
4 Everyone who is a child of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world—our faith.
John 6:28-29 (NCV)
28 The people asked Jesus, “What are the things God wants us to do?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work God wants you to do is this: Believe the One he sent.”
Psalm 118:8 (NCV)
8 It is better to trust the Lord than to trust people.
Hebrews 11:6 (NCV)

Luke 17:5 (NCV)
5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!”
Hebrews 6:12 (NCV)
12 We do not want you to become lazy. Be like those who through faith and patience will receive what God has promised.
James 1:5-6 (NCV)
5 But if any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous to everyone and will give you wisdom without criticizing you. 6 But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down by the wind.
Psalm 37:3, 5, 7 (NCV)
3 Trust the Lord and do good. Live in the land and feed on truth. 5 Depend on the Lord; trust him, and he will take care of you. 7 Wait and trust the Lord. Don’t be upset when others get rich or when someone else’s plans succeed.
Psalm 55:22 (NCV)
22 Give your worries to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will never let good people down.
Psalm 62:8 (NCV)

Isaiah 43:1-2 (NCV)
1 Now this is what the Lord says. He created you, people of Jacob; he formed you, people of Israel. He says, “Don’t be afraid, because I have saved you. I have called you by name, and you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you cross rivers, you will not drown. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flames hurt you.

Isaiah 50:10 (NCV)
10 Who among you fears the Lord and obeys his servant? That person may walk in the dark and have no light. Then let him trust in the Lord and yet depend on his God.

1 But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.
4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.
5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.
Last summer, a Canadian family celebrated their son’s third birthday with a camping trip to a popular park in British Columbia. One day during their stay, the boy’s parents thought he was playing with other children. When they realized he was missing, a frantic search ensued. According to the subsequent report of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the boy had ridden his toy truck into a swiftly-flowing river. The river swept the boy, still on the truck, downstream for nearly eight miles. It was a two-hour trip; and the boy, when he was discovered, seemed to have enjoyed himself. He rode his truck down the river like a raft. “He was very excited,” said an officer. 1
Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” The Lord watches over us, even when we don’t fully understand the perilous nature of our condition. Thank goodness for His daily protection!

“God’s love is stronger than any evil we might face!”
by Donny on May.18, 2009, under Uncategorized, devotionals, devotions, prayers
O Lord, hear me praying; listen to my plea, O God my King, for I will never pray to anyone but You. Each morning I will look to You in heaven and lay my requests before You, praying earnestly.
But as for me, I will come into your Temple protected by Your mercy and Your love; I will worship You with deepest awe. Lord, lead me as You promised me You would; otherwise my enemies will conquer me. Tell me clearly what to do, which way to turn.
But make everyone rejoice who puts his trust in You. Keep them shouting for joy because You are defending them. Fill all who love You with Your happiness. For You bless the godly man, O Lord; You protect him with Your shield of love.
(Psalm 5:1-3, 7-8, 11-12 – The Living Bible)
The secret of a close relationship with God is to pray to Him earnestly each morning. Regular communication is fundamental to any friendship and is certainly necessary for a strong relationship with God. We need to communicate with Him daily. Do you have a regular time to pray and read God’s Word?
When David was in trouble because of lies against him, he prayed, confident that God’s love would not only console him, but defend and shield him. We often make the mistake of thinking of love only in terms of gentleness. But God’s love is stronger than any evil we might face.
“The voice of the Lord is powerful!”
by Donny on Mar.23, 2009, under devotionals, devotions

Psalm 29:4
The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Stacy loved going to the beach. At night she would lie awake, listening to the surf pounding on the rocks. Closing her eyes, she would pretend the sound was God’s own voice thundering through the night. Such thoughts helped her feel His presence, close and comforting. A voice with such power and might allowed no room for fear. The owner of a voice like that could do anything. Indeed, Stacy knew that nothing could defeat her God; the God who thundered and roared with the greatest of power and majesty!
Prayer:
Lord, You are greater than anything else in creation. In nature You display Your power and might. I stand in awe of all that You are, even though I understand very little. Thank You for Your love and protection. Amen.
